For several years, I 'existed' in the form of an article on Wikipedia.
Then, I didn't.
Over the years, as link-rot set in (disappearing links), and as the article was whittled down by various people for whatever purpose, it became smaller and smaller. Eventually, a group of editors concluded that it was just promotional fluff and took it down.
I decided to take a shot recently at resurrecting it, and after a long process fraught with the unique challenges that come with Wikipedia (more on that in a moment), I finally 'exist' again. You can visit the new article [here.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Carroll_(futurist))
It's a pretty brief synopsis of a 40+ year career, but it's been approved through the official process, so it is what it is for the time being.

I learned a LOT through the entire process; first and foremost, Wikipedians (as they are known) really don't like it when someone sets off to create an article about themselves. That said, I encountered some kind editors along the way who helped me out.
There are many other things I learned, among them:
- Wikipedia is the last bastion against the massive rush of slop that is AI. It's a pretty massive issue for the system; they desperately do NOT want articles and content to come from AI, and battle HARD against it
- The system has a rigorous vetting process - you'll never have an article about you on Wikipedia if you don't pass their 'notability' test. Despite thousands of keynotes, 44 books, extensive news media, and other print, radio, and TV coverage, the proof of 'notability' is still extensively rigorous. That's probably a good thing
- The Wikipedia process over quality control, and content is VERY complex, with many people involved. You can't mess with the process. Heck, years back, I did a keynote with the founder of Wikipedia, Jimmy Wales, and he told me he wouldn't even dare to get involved in the process
- . The people who are involved in Wikipedia - the editors and others - truly believe in the noble purpose of their work, and I've come to truly appreciate and respect what they do (despite taking a few shots from folks along the way) Long term, a lot of reality is going to disappear with the ongoing explosion of AI, and Wikipedia might be one of the LAST reliable sources of information in our world. Editorial processes truly do matter!
At this point, I've been strongly encouraged not to directly make any changes to the article. If you think there is information which shoold be pointed out, and you are an active user of Wikipedia, I'd encourage you to take the initiative.
