# Insight 2020 Leadership Strategies for the Era of Acceleration : #1 – Check Your Speed

We live in the era of acceleration. The next decade will see unimaginable change to absolutely everything you know. Check your speed!

That’s the opening concept as I launch this video series for the month of 2020 – each business day, a new video clip, with insight, commentary and keynote clips, around the key leadership traits that you must focus on to survive and thrive into the 2020’s.

#1? Check your speed!

The most critical leadership trait that you can focus on for success in the next decade involves your ability to respond faster to faster trends.

When I am on stage, I will often prime my audience for the era of acceleration by commenting that “*we will see more change in the next ten years than we have seen in the last 100*.”

Is this just a mind-stretch, or is it real?

It’s real.

To get into the right frame of mind, watch this clip – I’m on stage opening a major manufacturing conference. Check the page line they’ve used on the stage backdrop – it’s from one of my daily quotes: “*Futurists? Think of us as a tour guide to an increasingly complex, extremely fast future!*”

As you watch the video, take note of my comments at the start:

Now watch this – and my comment, “*I’m going to take you on a tour of the trends that will redefine your world, and that you need to align yourself to in order to take advantage of opportunity.*”

Here’s the thing – those trends are going to come at you faster than every before through the next decade, and so it is your speed that really becomes a defining success factor.
