Video: Putting Your Mind Inside a Yottabit Ball
So, I had a potential client ask, “do you have any really futuristic video clips that don’t involve some of the trends of today?”
I’m not quite sure what the question actually means – interpreting what a client is looking for is sometimes a great mystery, which is why I always suggest that they jump on an exploratory conference call with me.
But if a client wants freaky futuristic stuff, I’ve got that too. Here’s a clip, where I’m on stage at the World Government Summit, talking about a future in which we might enhance the ability and capacity of our brains through Human-Computer Interface technology and off-brain storage, through what I would call a Yottabit ball. Sort of the type of stuff we might see in 2030 or further out.
The fact is, we will witness the next evolution of the size of the human brain with this type of thinking. Like, wires that go from our brain into a crystal ball that will help us to offload some of our thinking and brain processing. Current trends with HCI might lead us to this type of future.
But I don’t do a lot of this type of thing on stage. I really find that freaky doesn’t work in getting people to align themselves to the future. [Read more…] about Video: Putting Your Mind Inside a Yottabit Ball

‘’ People get locked into a thought pattern, and that can easily stifle their ability to innovate or to align themselves to opportunity.
This morning, I got my coffee, grabbed my laptop, and went in search of a photo for today’s quote. Yet unlike many mornings, I didn’t have a thought in mind – it must be Monday!
And then I came across this photo, and the word ‘perspective’ popped into my head. This is what my day job looks like from a side view – a totally different perspective! It took me a while to think around the word and shape a thought from it, but this is what I came up with!
Perspective can change many things – but the most important thing it can change is your own personal ideas, opinion, ambition, goals, and efforts. If you are struggling with anything today, or need some creative energy, just change your point of view!
You might find that it works wonders!’’
Want to Fire Up Your Event a Notch? Watch These Clips!
The National Fire Protection Association has booked me to headline their annual conference in Las Vegas this June.
As with every organization, they know that effective event marketing is a key to their success: and that they need to work harder to build attendance and interest in their events. To that end, I’ve been working relentlessly on some extremely customized, short videos that can be shared in advance of the event. Take a look at some of them here.
For this particular event, I pulled together 3 distinct video clips with my producer. Have a watch – they focus on future fire risk, accelerated infrastructure risk, virtual reality and more.
You can also watch the full, long version. We need to change things up a bit – long versions for the Web, shorter versions for social media!
Want to take your event to the next level? Work with a speaker who actually cares about your event and your own message – not theirs!

‘’ I see complacency all the time in my ‘day job.’ Lots of organizations who think that their business model will be the same in 10 years, that they’ll face the same competitors, and will sell the same type of product.
They won’t.
I’ve seen CEO’s of global, multi billion dollar companies explain that they are somehow ‘different,’ and won’t be buffeted by the ill winds of change. Right, buddy. I’ve talked to people who explained to me that their strategy from yesterday will work perfectly fine in a different world tomorrow. Ok, then. I’ve met individuals who are convinced that some of the ‘crazy ideas’ floating around in their industry won’t go anywhere, and that they can easily relax. Right.
The problem with this type of attitude is that it brings about the evil drug known as complacency, with the dangerous side effects of inaction, loss of focus, organizational sclerosis, cumbersome actions and lumbering, ponderous strategies. All not really in the best long term health for the organization. !
The business world doesn’t take kindly to that type of behaviour anymore. Neither does your personal life! !
When things are easy, it’s easy to be caught off guard. It’s only when it becomes complex that your survival instincts kick in, often in a rush of panic.
Why not avoid the panic stage, and do the things you need to do when you should be doing them? !
The photo here? It’s from a keynote I gave in the utility and energy sector – an industry for which I’ve just had *another* booking, making for 5 talks to senior executives in this space in just 4 months. Like some industries, some folks “get it”, but others don’t. My job is to give them the contract trends and guidance on what is taking them forward, and what needs to be done!’’

Here’s a phrase you have probably heard – “fail early, fail often!”
If not, file that one away – I use it a lot on stage.
Todays’ quote fits within that theme, and ties into the line of thinking I had with a friend yesterday who was on his way to an important meeting. I woke this morning, wondering what comfort I might offer if things didn’t work out for him, and this phrase popped into my head!
In the world of innovation, I’ll often speak about the importance of ‘experiential capital’ – the collective experience built up by a team as they pursue a big, new, bold idea. The more we try things, the more experience we build up – and it becomes a critical asset for our ultimate success.
It’s the same with our personal efforts, whether finding a new job, pursuing a new career, or taking on some new type of challenge. The path for success might not always be an easy one, but it’s a necessary one. The very act of taking each step forward is an ultimate part of that overall success.’’
